Meditoxin 100U is a botulinum toxin type A product, manufactured by Medytox Inc. in South Korea, primarily used for both aesthetic and therapeutic purposes. It is a lyophilized injectable formulation containing purified botulinum toxin type A complex, human serum albumin, and sodium chloride.
Meditoxin 100U is recognized globally under various brand names such as Siax®, Botulift®, Cunox®, and Neuronox®. It functions by blocking neuromuscular transmission, which leads to temporary muscle relaxation. This action makes it effective in reducing the appearance of dynamic facial wrinkles, such as frown lines, crow's feet, and Venus rings on the neck, by relaxing overactive facial muscles. The effects of a single treatment typically last between 3 to 6 months, depending on individual factors.
Beyond cosmetic applications, Meditoxin 100U is also indicated for several medical conditions. These include the treatment of benign essential blepharospasm (involuntary eyelid muscle contractions), hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), equinus foot deformity in pediatric cerebral palsy patients, and upper limb spasticity following a stroke. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Meditoxin 100U is comparable in efficacy and safety to OnabotulinumtoxinA (Botox®).
The product comes as a lyophilized white powder in a transparent vial, requiring reconstitution with 0.9% sodium chloride before use. The dosage varies depending on the condition being treated, with specific guidelines for dilution and injection sites. For instance, treating glabellar lines typically involves injecting 20 units across five specific sites. The reconstituted product should be stored in a refrigerator (2-8°C) and used within 24 hours.
Common side effects observed in clinical studies include eyelid ptosis (drooping), extraocular muscle disorder, localized pain, swelling, headache, nausea, and flu-like symptoms. Serious but less common side effects can include allergic reactions, dysphagia, breathing difficulties, or the spread of toxin effects beyond the injection site. Meditoxin 100U must be administered by licensed medical professionals, dermatologists, or certified aesthetic practitioners.
The product must be kept frozen (at a temperature lower than -5°C) or refrigerated (8-12°C). The shelf life of each Meditoxin box is 36 months (after the manufacturing date).
