Things to know before getting a lip filler

Things to know before getting a lip filler

What are dermal fillers used for?

Dermal fillers are injections that plump up wrinkles and smooth out lines on your face and lips to sit your ideal look. And there exist several types of dermal fillers, one of which is the lip filler.

Although lip filler injections can be a useful tool to add or restore volume, enhance the size and contour of the lips, their widespread use is a touchy subject. There are many reasons to be cautious and wary of lip augmentation, especially in the age of social media, when unrealistic aesthetic standards are prevalent, from the emergence of overfilled pouts to the risk of botched jobs. Your lips and your face cant be things you neglect.

"Lip fillers are a gel-like substance that is injected to add volume to the lips, correct asymmetries, and/or create a desired shape or fullness," says Dendy Engelman, a dermatologist in New York. "They work by attracting water molecules within the lips, giving them a plumper appearance." Many people want  plump naturally thin, flat lips or add volume to lips that have lost definition as they get older." A hyaluronic acid-based filler , such as Juvéderm or Restylane, is the most commonly used type of filler if you need to see valuable lip filler benefits. According to Engelman, studies have shown that, in addition to stimulating collagen production, hyaluronic acid-based fillers can hold up to 1000 times their molecular weight in water, which increases hydration and contributes to a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Botox  injections Can help your change more natural.
While most people associate lip augmentation with filler, Botox (botulinum toxin type A) can also be helpful. "Botox injections can also be used alone or in combination with fillers for a subtle pout-magnification by flipping out the lip line (where you would apply lip liner), gently rolling the lip outward, and giving the appearance of a fuller lip," says Liotta, who has developed a custom non-surgical "couture lips" treatment that uses one to three different types of filler, often in tandem with Botox for the ultimate bespoke results . "Filler adds volume and increases the size of the lip by literally making it bigger." Botox works in a different way; it relaxes muscles, and by relaxing the muscles around the mouth, it reduces wrinkles.
